Comment on Contemporary Pedagogy Vs. Bureaucracy !! by AbdelRahman

Thanks Mohammed for the post. I like what your Mater’s professor do in his class. For me, as being supposed to return to the system you mentioned and work under it’s bureaucracy, I share the same thoughts as you.
However, I think you can find your way around every obstacles without violating the rules. While having a fixed curriculum for your course, you still can balance between what you want to do and what you are forced to do. For example, every course in Egypt has both lectures and tutorials. Tutorials are purely yours, you can give whatever you find useful for your students. Final exams are obligatory, but your professor find a way for that. Other during-semester exams, you can replace with other forms of evaluation.

Also, Thanks for Dr. Neslon for letting us know about this great Egyptian professor who is interested in pedagogical stuff.

Comment on Emotional Engineering by AbdelRahman

Thanks for the post. I really have the same concern of most people in Engineering under-evaluate humanities. Although, I think humanities are still important for engineer’s sole. You cannot just study technical stuff like maths, physics, other engineering courses and say that’s enough. I like to read in many other disciplines rather than Engineering. I think this was influenced by the fact that in my undergraduate in Egypt we were asked to take a humanity course each semester.

Comment on How hard is it for a teacher to admit that he was wrong! by AbdelRahman

Thanks for your comment. I believe that he is more than a good teacher by doing this. I also took one course last semester from Industrial Engineering department, the instructor was very different in the way he gives lectures. Most of the lectures were closer to discussions rather than typical lectures. I felt that I was not learning by this way. However, at the end of the semester I found that I have learned in this course much better than many other courses in my department (ECE). I don’t know if he is the same instructor as yours, but it seems that the Industrial Engineering department is lucky by having these good instructors.
