Thanks for sharing your story Willie! Education should be fun and serve a purpose for the learner. It takes a lot of courage to do what you did and I think that you certainly have an interesting perspective on education because of your experiences.

Hey Freddie! I’m inclined to agree with many of the things you have said. There is a delicate balance between being a maniacal, power hungry, dictator and a super chill prof. I think that it is a difficult balance at times, but I think the best thing you can do to be an “ideal” professor is to be open and understanding.

I like this post a lot because it encourages visualization of a problem in a different way. Problem posing and critical thinking are things that every cartographer should know but it is very difficult to teach through the banking model of pedagogy.

I concur – I don’t discount folks based on GPA be it a 4.0 or something lower. Communication and reliability are the two most important qualities I would look for in an employee.
