Comment on Things I am going to keep in mind as a future teacher by Angelica Stovall

Along with you, prior to this course I taught I knew about pedagogy, but it turns out, there is so much more to it. The idea of being the best faculty comes with a lot of work. When thinking of the best teaching method, one must truly look at a diverse way of teaching starting from syllabus creation to course delivery. I have learned so much in this course, now it’s time to put it in action.

Comment on Blog#5 Don’t let (little) people sit in sh!t by Angelica Stovall

Cindy, I can truly say this was one of the most empathetic things one could have done in this situation and I applaud you for it. The Henry article discussed empathy. And it also made me think about how sometimes you have to forget what you were taught to do in a situation and just be empathetic. You’re a great principal and I appreciate you making our little children feel comfortable when they make a mistake or have an accident.

Comment on Connecting The Dots – Reflection by Angelica Stovall

I am saddened to hear about your experience. Yes, it is important for us to evaluate our teaching methods but no matter what there will be students that will not find those techniques helpful. We try to make sure all of our students get the information needed but the truth is everyone learns in a different way. My advise is to make sure you have a diverse set of teaching methods so that you can get the attention of majority of the students.

Comment on “Critical Pedagogy” or, no, no, no, don’t stick to the status quo by Angelica Stovall

I appreciate how you applied critical pedagogy to the critical race theory. Myself looking into this for my dissertation, agree that our interactions in the world are based on our identity. Regardless of how we are taught our identities make a difference in how we move through the world. Now when it comes to the decision of whether to learn or not to learn it depends on the situation or circumstance but teachers should encourage students everyday to learn, be curious and to question things.

Comment on Critical Pedagogy: Defined and Illustrated by Angelica Stovall

This blog post is one of the most intriguing posts. I love the visuals and most importantly I appreciate one of my favorite quotes related to education. I agree with Freire that education changes people and people change the world. This is an idea that is sometimes hard to get people to understand. If we want change, we must have people continue to learn, once they realize that things can change, they may become motivated to make the change.

Comment on Can we multitask? by Angelica Stovall

You are right, what most of us consider multi-tasking is not actually multi-tasking. We often like to think we can accomplish multiple things at once but in reality we are just switching back and forth as you stated. But what I would like to say is that I do think people can do 2 things simultaneously and do a good job with them both. I need constant stimulation in order to focus. I know most people are opposite but I must have something planned to think about while I am working on something because if not I will end up being distracted by everything around me. So often I will have 2 things to focus on. If in class, I will pay attention to what the professor would like me to be doing at the moment but then I will also have something in the back of my mind to think about such as a homework assignment or reading material related to the subject. If there is a silent moment, I will switch to the second area of thought so that I do not get distracted from the subject at hand. I know it may sounds weird, but it works for me.

Comment on OK, Google! by Angelica Stovall

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I myself, often wonder if technology is sometimes making us dumb. People do not take the time out to read actual books anymore or to go to the library to just read. Typically people have a task they are set to complete or have a question they need answered and over time we want instant answers or gratification. With Google and Alexa we receive this instant gratification therefore we have began to use it more and depend on it. My children often ask me questions and my most frequent response is look it up. What do they do but go to their electronics and ask Google. I know it gets the job done but I often wonder if we didn’t have it or the internet went down would people even know what to do. It’s a good question…

Comment on Will I convert to blogging? by Angelica Stovall

I felt the same way when I first began a class that required me to blog. Typically when someone mentioned blogging I looked at them like that’s a waste of time. But after blogging for my last class I come to realize that I enjoy it. It gives me an avenue to share my thoughts with those that opt to and want to read what I have to say. It has become a form of stress relief for me but also gives me a way to put information out into the universe. So to answer your main question…I have converted to blogging. Although not as often as I could, I do find time to blog spontaneously.
