Thank you Jellie. I think being a mom helps me make good decisions for “my kids” at school. I enjoyed the Henry article and am glad our readings helped me reflect on being a human first.

Thank you for your comment Matt. The nurse usually helps with this, but she had two other students in her office and isn’t supposed to see students before 8AM. This happened on the bus so around 7:30 AM. It’s good to have a witness in these situations (my AP held the bag) and we were in the nurse’s private bathroom with the door open to maintain privacy. It’s a fine line, but sometimes I do what is right and ethical for kids and then deal with adults later.

I totally agree with you Connor. We all have lives and a story and sometimes that has to come before school work. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your insight Sara, especially the mama part. I try to keep that in mind each day and approach situations the way I would want someone to treat one of my three darlings (who are not always darlings).

Thank you Kyunghee. I’m excited to watch this Ted Talk and perhaps share it with my staff. We are all in it together, not matter what position a person is in.

Thanks Gary. Taking care of those social and emotional needs often need to come before the academics. It seems like more and more kids are experiencing trauma and need extra TLC.

Enjoyed reading your post. It is definitely a privilege to choose what you want to study. I have a friend that wanted to be a teacher, but her parents refused to pay her tuition because they said she would not make enough money in that field. My parents did not get to go to college due to family circumstances and so they were happy with whatever I chose, so long as I went and they paid for it. We still have situations today where kids have to go to work to support their families. I believe there is an old country song that speaks to that – rich man goes to college and a poor man goes to work. There are definitely more opportunities than there used to be though. Some go for free.
