Thank you for your comment Matt. The nurse usually helps with this, but she had two other students in her office and isn’t supposed to see students before 8AM. This happened on the bus so around 7:30 AM. It’s good to have a witness in these situations (my AP held the bag) and we were in the nurse’s private bathroom with the door open to maintain privacy. It’s a fine line, but sometimes I do what is right and ethical for kids and then deal with adults later.

Comment on Things I am going to keep in mind as a future teacher by Angelica Stovall

Along with you, prior to this course I taught I knew about pedagogy, but it turns out, there is so much more to it. The idea of being the best faculty comes with a lot of work. When thinking of the best teaching method, one must truly look at a diverse way of teaching starting from syllabus creation to course delivery. I have learned so much in this course, now it’s time to put it in action.

Cindy, I can truly say this was one of the most empathetic things one could have done in this situation and I applaud you for it. The Henry article discussed empathy. And it also made me think about how sometimes you have to forget what you were taught to do in a situation and just be empathetic. You’re a great principal and I appreciate you making our little children feel comfortable when they make a mistake or have an accident.

I am saddened to hear about your experience. Yes, it is important for us to evaluate our teaching methods but no matter what there will be students that will not find those techniques helpful. We try to make sure all of our students get the information needed but the truth is everyone learns in a different way. My advise is to make sure you have a diverse set of teaching methods so that you can get the attention of majority of the students.
