Comment on Teaching for the 21st Century – Connecting the Dots by Hana Lee

Thank you for your post! I totally agree that several points you made here. Particularly, our efforts might not be enough to reshape the educational system we have, but in a long term, I strongly believe that we can see some changes as much as we put our efforts in it. Like you mentioned here, one thing we need to remember is to make changes, it needs to be done in collaboration with each individuals as well as its society. Thanks!

Thank you for your post! I also thought that it is hard to say good or not about expressing teacher’s personal beliefs in the classroom. Because it could be different based on different contexts, type of beliefs/topics and type/level of students etc. While we as human we have right to freedom of speech, also an educator we must remember that we should take more responsibility on what you are saying. Because the impact could be stronger than others, particularly on our students.

Comment on professionals are still human beings by Hana Lee

It’s perfect post for our last blogging. I also thought that I have to be perfect until starting my PhD degree here. As a professor, I was trying to be perfect to be ready for all possible questions, but I’m not sure that was really worthy to spend my all time. I could spend the time to interact with the students or to assist them in many different ways. Yes, we are human, it’s really important point to keep in mind. Thanks!

Comment on Being Inclusive in a Society by Hana Lee

Thank you for your post. I also did the bias test and the result was not I was expected too. If the result is reliable, the question you posed here is what we should think about. Another thought i had was that as an educator, I’m concerned about the fact that “all of us have some sorts of biases about certain issues, and some of those are conscious while the rest are unconscious.” That’s an obvious factor due to different backgrounds we have such as cultures, nations or socio-economic status: I’m wondering how we could utilize those diverse lenses we have in educational setting to maximize the benefits of diversity, if we can not avoid it.

Thank you for your post! I glad the teacher had a chance to change his teaching style to his own way. I truly believe that each teachers have their own teaching styles, but sometime institutions require us to use same class materials or syllabus from my experience. That’s no gap a teacher put their creativity/style in teaching, but the university did that because of quality control reason.

Comment on My Teaching Style by Hana Lee

Thank you for your post. The number of class is really matter when we teach. I also had the same experience, I had around forty students in one class and I was teaching three classes at same time. It was really hard to remember each student’s name for sure, it was much harder to follow up their learning process. Although I was trying to do my best to guide them to get great products from the class, but I still want to think to find my best teaching style.

Comment on Factors Affecting Teaching by Hana Lee

Thank you for your posting. I agree that academic institutions can influence how instructors teach. I believe the institutions can also influence how we evaluate our students; such as the way how institutions evaluate their faculty definitely influence our syllabus as well as the way we push/teach our students. From my previous teaching experience, as an individual faculty, there was not much freedom in teaching or evaluating students; we, all faculties who were teaching same course, used same syllabus and class materials. Additionally, there was a given scoring rubric for our faculty from the university.

Comment on Twitter & Blogs as Publication Outlets by Hana Lee

True. All you discussed here is how the majority of people feel about social media outlets. All the new platforms have its own opportunities for sure, in communicating/interacting with other people, and as a tool for education. Like you mentioned above, I also would not use this type of platform to publish my work for now. However, I guess it could be a great way to publish/share idea depending on types of research or disciplines. Because there are a lot of publications already, that are actually the results of blogging.
