Comment on What is school for? by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I liked your post and I agree with what you said. Students should be taught how to learn and look for the truth, not just learn facts that they might forget later. They should be stimulated to get creative and innovative because they’re excited about the material and they love it, not because there is an exam that they should pass.

Comment on Am I Prepared for Work by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I like the point that you raised and I understand what you’re feeling. I think part of the problem is that students are not trained in a problem-based leaning way to teach them how to solve any problem that faces them, instead of just throwing facts at them.

Comment on The Value of Education  by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I liked your post and I agree with what you said. People should definitely think about why they are going to college (and grad school) instead of stopping and starting a business, which might end up making them more money. It all depend on their view of life and what their long term goals are.

Comment on Internet addiction? by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I believe that technology depends on how we use it. It’s us who determine whether it’s good or not. For example we could use nuclear power to generate electricity or to create a bomb. Same thing with the internet, it has a lot of advantages and a few disadvantages. We should use it for it’s advantages and stay away from things that don’t present any benefits for us.

Comment on Improvement through Technology by Rabih

It’s good to know that someone else also disagrees with the author of that article. I honestly felt that the author had something against technology without knowing how to express that. None of the evidence he gave made sense. Reading, whether it is on a laptop or on a piece of paper, is the same. It’s just that with Google we now have access to all kind of information and learn much more stuff.

Comment on Electronic Device or Not? by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I agree with you. Teachers should leave the freedom to the student to choose. Nobody is making the student come to class. It’s his responsibility. No need to treat him like a child. And if he doesn’t have a laptop he will find a million other ways to get distracted if the material is not interesting to him. It’s the teacher’s job to keep the talk interesting to each and every student.

Comment on Pedagogy Has A Context Outside Of The Classroom by Rabih

I totally agree with you. One of the main problems that I see in the way teachers teach is that a lot of teachers don’t relate the material that they’re teaching to real life problems. Furthermore, some teachers even forget about the fact that their main purpose is form a better human being who cares about his society and his environment; their end up creating very talented robots who fail at being good human beings.

Comment on Sectarian. by Rabih

Thank you for your post. I’m also a Pink Floyd fan btw :). Concerning what you wrote at the beginning concerning people from different sects and religions, I believe that people should come to an understanding that their life circumstances lead them to believe in what they believe in (or to what they don’t believe in), and different people have different been through different paths in life. If I were born in a Muslim family I’d most probably be Muslim, but I’m Catholic, probably because I was born in a Catholic family. I think that everyone should acknowledge that and accept everyone else, whether they’re from a different religion, sect, atheists, … The only sect or religion that one should consider is whether the other person is a good person or not, if he loves others or not; and even it that’s not the case he should love him unconditionally. Love should be our uniting religion.

Comment on How to reduce stereotype threat? by Rabih

I guess the problem you raised depends on the country where that person is and their culture. Considering your main thesis statement,
“It makes people discouraged to take challenge in academia while being worried to be confirmed the limitation associated with stereotype.”
I honestly don’t think it’s a serious problem. If the human being is presenting something that is worth presenting, innovating, creating new technologies, … I don’t think his race or ethnicity for example would be a problem.
