Comment on The Godfather: Russian Edition by clairesuttonrussia

Really good post! I’m glad you did a topic that no one else really covered. Growing up on tv we always heard about the Russian Mafia but we didn’t really get that many specifics. You said that it thrived after the fall of the Soviet Union. Was there a reason why they didn’t do so well during the communist rule and better during the “capitalist”?

Comment on Excuse me while I have a quick meltdown by clairesuttonrussia

I like the way you wrote your post Grace. It made it much more interesting to read. I especially like how you connected it to if the United States kept 9/11 from us for 3 weeks. We would’ve been appalled and probably taken to the streets. Were there any protests after the public found out?

Comment on We Have No Sex Here by clairesuttonrussia

Yes sexual revolution! I love how you chose this topic because this has been going on in a lot of Western countries starting around this time and still going on. it’s nice to see that it happened in the Soviet Union as well. Also did you see anything in your research about how they wanted to make prostitution safer for the females or if they wanted to unionize it?

Comment on Episode 6: Return of the Jet Age by clairesuttonrussia

Wow, the opposite of what the United States taught us during the Cold War! In this case, communism worked and capitalism was the one that failed. That is so interesting. Very good post! I didn’t know the story of Aeroflot but I knew a little about Pan Am, thank you for blogging about this and giving me a mini history lesson.

Comment on Russian Into Afghanistan by clairesuttonrussia

Austin, I also wrote about Afghanistan and I think I like your post a lot better! After researching this, I was wondering why the Soviets were in Afghanistan for 10 years when they suffered so many loses and unintended consequences. That is something that I want to research a little bit more

Comment on Honey, The New Neighbors are Moving In! by clairesuttonrussia

First of all, I had no idea that’s what KGB stood for haha. Your post is very interesting. I really like and wish I could visit one of those “American towns.” We always hear about the KGB but we don’t really know what actually went on and I definitely learned a lot more about it from your post. Thanks!

Comment on Come And Czech This Out by clairesuttonrussia

This is a very good post! I like reading about what the Warsaw Pact countries were doing during this time as well. What were the reforms that the Soviets specifically didn’t like? I know you mentioned restrictions on secret police, but were there any more than the Soviets didn’t like?

Comment on Blog 5 – The Famine of 1946 by clairesuttonrussia

I had no idea there was such a big famine during this time. Thank you for writing about this and enlightening me on such a sad topic. Was it stated how many died during this time? I know that Great Britain also had to ration after the war because their supplies were down as well but it probably didn’t even compare to what happened in the Soviet Union. Good post!

Comment on The Worst Thing About Prison was… the Dementors by clairesuttonrussia

Good post! I really liked the title, it definitely made me want to read your whole post and I wasn’t disappointed. I liked how you went into detail about who was released. It’s how some of those people were imprisoned in the first place. Were there other types of people who were released along with the political prisoners in the 2nd amnesty?

Comment on Open Up, Communism is Knocking on Your Door by clairesuttonrussia

I liked the way you wrote this! It definitely made you realize how terrible this time of Soviet history was and how you didn’t have control over your life during this time. This part of history is not taught in school really and it should be. We were allies with the Soviets during the war and all the while they were killing millions of people just a few years before.
