I thought this was an interesting post! I love learning about music. I never hear about Russian music (unless it’s classical music). Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed the song!

I found your post very interesting! I wrote about the same topic, but I really liked the quote you used. I think it really shows how taboo sex was in the Soviet Union at this time! I was shocked when I read that there wasn’t a word for sex.

Comment on Guns or Records? What do athletes want? by rjwait
When you explain it like this it does seem so silly where each nation was unwilling to back down just out of pride. Sad that innocent people that didn’t really care had to get caught up in all the nonsense. I never really thought about how some athletes suffered more than others making note of the gymnasts. I wonder if in the future we’ll see an olympics without national representation because at the end of the day, that’s not what should be celebrated and isn’t really important.

Thank you! During my research, I began to believe the boycott had little to do with the actual invasion of Afghanistan, and more to do with harming Soviet moral. Also, the Carter administration needed to save face. Just a mess that hurt athletes!

I’m sure they had ambitions. As you said there was gradual progress. They were always pushing the limit- they admitted sending Laika into space wasn’t thought through enough resulting in her death. They had ambitions too- sending animals and people into space were huge accomplishments. Nevertheless they overcame boundaries and had a lot of “firsts”.
