Thank you! The plight of the gymnast in the situation is heartbreaking. It definitely offers another point of view.

Comment on Guns or Records? What do athletes want? by dylana94
Thank you! During my research, I began to believe the boycott had little to do with the actual invasion of Afghanistan, and more to do with harming Soviet moral. Also, the Carter administration needed to save face. Just a mess that hurt athletes!

Thank you! I believe it was especially detrimental to gymnast because it is a skill cultivated from childhood. It’s not something that can be discovered during the teen years or later.
Comment on Why Afghanistan? by dylana94
Afghanistan had potential to create opportunity for the Soviet Union for economic development. Most likely, the Soviet Union would have controlled Afghanistan economically like pre-revolutionary Nicaragua was by the United States. I like how you reflected on the Vietnam war to make a comparison. It is unlikely the Soviets ever had chance of being successful in Afghanistan!

Russian music is new to me, and I really enjoyed the song! Im glad you included it. The mention of the memorial wall to remember an icon is amazing. It shows that during a period of issue, a social icon can bring people together even if rock music is censored by the Government.
Comment on Bye, Bye Vodka by dylana94
I really enjoyed the posters you showed. They did a good job supporting you point. In many ways this reflects the United States during Prohibition. With such a wide spread use of blackmarkets in the Soviet Union, it is no surprise that alcohol would still be widely available. I like the point that people want what they cannot have. It fits well with the Russian cultural importance of vodka. Something people love and cannot have, it is not surprising issues arouse.
