Week 1 Blog Guidelines

For your first post, please explore Russian Realism, focusing either on the painting of “The Wanderers” (Peredvizhiniki) or on Nikolai Leskov’s story, Lady MacBeth of Mtsensk Uezd. For the painters, you might want to identify a particular painting, and tell us what you’ve been able to find out about it and why it is interesting or relevant to you. For the Leskov story you might want to respond to or reflect on a particular character, plot twist, the general setting, or the underlying themes of the piece. In either case, explore and explain what you’ve learned and why the piece you chose interested you. I’ve given you a couple of starting points above, but you are free (and encouraged) to identify other sources as well.  Just make sure to cite (link) to the source of your information.
