Comment on Inclusive Pedagogy for International Students by sofrgp

I have experienced most of your expressed fears and feelings on your post and I am not from any East Asian countries. So, probably this can be extrapolated for most of the international students who still struggles with the barrier of language. The think-share-pair sounds like a good strategy to be sure that every ones opinion is expressed at least with a person.

Thanks for your comment Jyotsana,
I am with you, sometimes it is so hard to apply the theory. Some thoughts to create a conductive environment is giving group assignments/projects/discussions and changing teams constantly. Other one, that actually Dr. Nelson uses on her class is to change seats each class to encourage conversation between different students.
Do you have any other strategy in mind?

Comment on The Secret Sauce by sofrgp

In every good recipe, there is always a secret ingredient. After reading your post and thinking in what would be the secret ingredient for teaching, I realized that passion is the secret ingredient. Passion help to enjoy what we do and as consequence help to be a useful guide for students. Of course, we should always be aware of other important details as you described above.

Diana I loved your post. Congrats for the presentation, you did not mentioned how it ends, but I and sure that it was a completely successful.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and techniques. I would definitively try to apply them. My favorite one, is to try to engage the audience with a very creative slide.
My answer to your last question is “participation”. I hate classes where just the professor talks. So, I always try to create questions for the students, in that way they can think about the topic and share with the group.
