Comment on to Learn, not to be taught by Freddie Salado

You are absolutely right! As future professors we need to change the way students are taught. One student reply to my blog with an interesting anecdote about a friend that is currently teaching calculus. He knew that the old methods are not working as it should, therefore he decided to turn his classroom into a lab by applying different approaches to verify which one is more feasible for the students. According to this student, the professor decided to give 10-20 minutes break to the student that were taking a test to allow them to get out and enjoy the nature without talking to each other with the purpose of relaxing and for a moment stop thinking about the test. He said that the student results improve after he applied that technic. In other words, in the future we will have the power to implement such technics, therefore we might as well use that power to find the best one.

I agree with you on what you said about how we should use the Connected Learning. A couple of minutes ago I replied to another student blog referring to the same idea where we need to keep the current system that we have with the formal education while implementing the CL to improve it in the best possible way. I said that professors should have the task of guiding students while CL will help them increase that knowledge in their own way.

Comment on Connected learning: Reconciling the old with the new? by Freddie Salado

You are absolutely right! Connected Learning is a great solution to get people exited about learning. But why not try to implement both formal education and at the same time apply CL. You can use a teacher to guide the student and give them the knowledge to know where to start and then allow CL to let the student implement those knowledges and expand them by themselves.
One of the things that I like about your post is that you are not relating CL only to technology, like I saw in other posts. CL can be achieved by leaving the classroom and getting experience from the outside world in the way they prefer.

Comment on Connected Learning: The Great Equalizer? by Freddie Salado

Formal education will never be replace by Connected Learning but in a way it can work as a tool to improve the formal education. One of the problem that I see with CL is related to amount of information available to everybody. You mention something about people having “the ability to go after exactly what they want and when they want it”. In other words people will never have the opportunity to expand their minds or imagination due to the fact that they will always search what they need and nothing else. As Albert Einstein once said “Imagination is more important than knowledge”, and Im sure that students are not getting that by a click of a button. They will get it in places such as a classroom where you have an open environment.
