Networked Learning

Learning in the future will be global and collaborative.

People can communicate to each other to achieve this purpose. We need technology that supports academic learning and good skills to make the best out of technology.

The benefits of learning online are many. People from distance can work together on a same Project in real time by using a shared computer screen. Resources can be accessed from different locations such as home, workplaces or campus.

The aim of blogging could reflect on our growth and learning by gathering our work. We can use blogging for the purpose of research papers and also receive feedback from others. We can also create media via various web tools.

I like the fact that blogging let us to read others opinions on a same topic or subject and will help us to improve our knowledge sometimes towards a specific problem and learn more about how to solve it in an easier way.

Week 12: Ethics and Personal Ethos

Talking about personal ethics sometimes could be difficult to explain but for me as a person to chose to be an artist I always try to choose the subjects or works that have a meaning to the audience something that I feel that should be told to the people around the world and be understood.

Of course you can never satisfy everyone by your own opinions there will always people some group of people that admire your ideas and some others that are against it but I think I someone believe in what he/she wants to say that could have more impact on people.

I myself never think of the amount of money that I am going to gain by doing a work but the quality is more important to me and how serious I am to convey what I have in my mind and how to do it in a best possible way.

week 11: The State of Higher Education Today

I watched the video and it impressed me the way it showed and payed attention to the details of students life. Students today seems to spend much less time on their assignments or course work as they used to do 50 years ago. The evidence displays that they are learning less than students once did in many industrial countries. Most of the students that come to colleges are poorly prepared for college work. It is dangerous that higher graduation rates would be achievable only by reducing academic standards.

I am a graduate student and I am in class which there are also undergraduate students and while the teacher is speaking and showing slides students have their laptops open and their cellphones are right in front of them on desks. I often see they are not paying any attention to class because some of them are chatting on face book or even ordering things online from amazon or texting during the class. I always think to myself from where I came from we did not have strict rules for paying attention in classes but no body dared to take out her/his cellphone or laptop to do something unrelated to the class but here the rules seems to be very important when I see students they talk as If they never do anything outside the rules but the facts proved me that people are not what they say. Another thing that surprised me was that no matter how much teacher speak or how many times she/he asked questions of students no one would answer any of him/her questions as if the teacher is talking to her/himself. To me they are like ghosts they come to classes they sit and they leave as nothing ever happened. It bothered me because I grew up the way that students have to interact in classes and learn to criticize but here in class it was only me that was responsive to the teacher and it made me feel bad because I noticed other students think that I want to show off what I know but the answers I gave were obvious only the point was It seemed rude to me not to answer the teacher.

Week 10: Disciplinary Codes of Conduct

Ethics and values apply to our personal and professional life. A code of Conduct is a set of written principles and behaviors created by the organization to serve as a guide. Conduct code is to ensure professional integrity, quality, and to provide misguided conducts. As a person I have vast life experiences that have effected who I am and what I believe in. When It comes to family I was raised to be respectful of those around me; However I learned to speak my mind when I did not agree. In my perspective respect is important but the most influential values I learned were kindness and the power of knowledge. I am studying art and I always had that dream that one day art would be as important as other fields. I was looking for the codes of conduct for my department but I could not find any. It is sad that in twenty first century still people and academic environments do not care about art and artists as much as other majors such as medical departments or engineering and etc.

Week 9: Copyright Issues

Whenever I wanted to use an image I was not sure if I have the legal or ethical right to do so. Understanding the law for using a music file or a video or an image can be a bit tricky. Copyright is introduced to protect the right of the authors ideas and applies to many works and it protects them in many different ways. It protects musical and graphic works and etc. Also it is a protection act to defy others the right to show their ideas and to receive credits on their achievement. As everyone knows plagiarism is easy to do but it has it’s consequences. If you are borrowing inspiration from any copyrighted work, you are in danger.
I am a fan of Jim Morrison which he was a creative artist and a musician. There was a photographer named Joel Brodsky which was taking photos of The Doors band and after a while a French street artist invader recreated the photographer’s iconic Jim Morrison photo with Rubik’s cubes which to me it is not clear if it was a fair use of that image or not. Many people think that they know what a fair use is but the truth is not even juries and judges can agree on a clear definition.

Week 8: Final Project

For my final project for this class I decided to do a storyboard about plagiarism(cheating) in art. I want to display the originality of the work that is considered by an artist.
I will make the series of drawings by using Photoshop and they would be in 2D.
With this project I want to show that how misconduct could affect not only the one that is doing it but also others who are involved in that project.

Week 7: Authorship

I watched the Austin Kleon’s Ted Talk and it really impressed me. aAs an artist I always had this question in my mind that what makes an artist the author of an art piece. I remember whenever I was searching for the art works of the great masters I ended up with an idea that they where using some elements of the works of other artists to create their own works. For example as Kleon mentioned Picasso created many art works even those that included newspapers in them and he was always staling ideas from other great painters or sculptors. He also used to steal the idea of his close artists friends but that does not mean that he was copying them. He looked and read and learned about the men before him to gather the information to combine them with his owns in order to present a new work to the world.
I think stealing is what human has been done for many years and it is a good thing to reshape and reform the different ideas to create and innovate new ones.
