Me too. If teachers can teach concepts/topics with a broad idea and related them to students life, students can understand them well and be attracted.

Comment on The purpose of school by Jie
I agree that memorization is important. You develop your brain when you use it. My point here is that education should not only focus on memorization.
Comment on The secret dot by Jie
Thank you for your post! This course provides many dots and we need to find the appropriate dots and connect them.
Comment on The Joy of Discovery by Jie
Thank you for your post. Not only students, but also people who have jobs love break. the phenomenon that students love break doesn’t mean students hate school. Students may hate classes which are boring or useless in the future, but this can be solved by teachers or school officers.
Comment on The future of teaching by Jie
Thank you for sharing the example. If one to one teaching is available to all students, teachers can care about everyone’s needs. But for a course with many students, especially for large course, it is difficult for personalized teaching. Teachers should adapt their teaching strategies and apply various teaching methods.
Comment on Teacher evaluation: how much it shows the truth? by Jie
I am totally agree with you. Teaching evaluation by students is not efficient. Many students don’t take evaluation seriously. It is just a task for them and they try to finish it as soon as possible. For students who leave comments/suggestions, a few complain the teacher only because of his/her bad performance. Other types of evaluation like colleague evaluation may be helpful, but it seems difficult to implement.
Comment on Experience vs. Memory by Jie
I agree. People are willing to memorize moments use technology instead of enjoy the moments by experiencing. When I met a group of friends, many of them were busy taking photos for food we had, place we were at, and people we met. Then they posted them on social media and chatted with people who left a comment. I think they are away of the fun of meeting with friends.
Comment on Smarter, Dumber, or Lazier? by Jie
Thank you for your post! To me, technology is a tool. It helps non-experts to solve problems without specialized knowledge. But as learners, you should learn fundamental knowledge to understand technology. Calculators help students get correct answers more quickly. It is a efficient tool. Without calculators, if students know how to get answers with correct equations, I don’t think it is a problem no matter the answers are correct or not. Otherwise, it is a problem.
Comment on Paulo Freire evaluating my Syllabus! by Jie
Before I went to college, the teachers just transferred knowledge and I just received knowledge by memoring mostly. The teachers didn’t care much about critical thinking because they focused on letting students to pass the exams.
Comment on How hard is it for a teacher to admit that he was wrong! by Jie
I like your post. When I was an instructor last summer, I was also afraid of making mistakes because I thought I was responsible to provide the correct information to my students. I tried my best to avoid mistakes. When I made a mistake, I was nervous but I was not afraid of admitting that I was wrong.
