I wish! It would be an entirely different world if a practice like this was not an exception but a rule.

OK I’m hungry now Karen….but apart from my love for food I totally agree with your comments and your lovely comparison. Imagination…I love your quote “focus goes from the material being learned to the learning of the material”…if only every teacher started thinking this way we could in an ideal situation resolve the issue of bored, uninterested and even napping students…wouldn’t we?!

Thank you for your comment. Last Summer I asked my mother if growing up in India like I did, she had every imagined I would continue my education the way I had and she replied with the biggest shake of her head..she had never guessed it. Some due to circumstance, lack of opportunity and some due to my own perseverance I think I have made it where I am…and I am very thankful for it. It has been a wonderful journey. I do believe that being able to step back and really look at something for what it is without being defensive or scared of what one may find is the key to improvement and success. I agree with you about the broken system sometimes being an advantage…you get to figure out your own strengths that way.

Pros and cons to everything…I believe that when we are involved too closely its difficult to look for problems and solutions..being able to step back however always seems to help.

Karen your blog heading made me think of this cartoon: http://www.vopus.org/en/gnosis/lets-smile/mindful-or-mind-full.html and how appropriate your post is for that as well. We get so caught up and mind full versus mindful. After having read your post and about mindful teaching and learning I really do believe that falling back to comfortable patterns is really not the way contemporary pedagogy can progress….after all change is the only constant in life!

Ditto on being the professional secret keeper! From keeping your social media profiles “hidden” from public to here we are on a platform for the entire web community to read and comment on. It is a tough process but like you said it is going to change everything. I think that idea of connected learning is similar to the idea you presented about stepping outside our comfort zones and doing something new that pushes our boundaries and leads us to grow.
