Comment on Adragogy. The New Word of the Day by scribe
Hey, thanks for commenting. In my haste, I had forgotten to link to the article. It has been fixed now.
General legal consensus for adulthood is 18, which is what I am referring to here, though psychology would probably put mental adulthood somewhere around 25.
Comment on Creating a safe place for all types of ideas by AKatz
I would be interested in knowing more about what you do to create this environment! Also, do you think there’s anything that could be done to help student approach these topics in a way that facilitates the airing of controversial ideas?

Grade inflation is already an issue, but it is a pittance compared to what would happen if results began to be demanded. Right now, much like high school in the 1980’s, grade inflation is occurring as a result of internal inflation. However, given external motivators the rate of grade inflation would increase exponentially as it did for no child left behind.
Comment on The fear of failure by AKatz
I agree that fear is probably part of the human condition, but it is not clear to me that fear of a lion and fear of students judging me are one and the same. I get the impression that some of this is taught to us and then we take it for granted as part of the human condition ?

You are not alone on having a fear of failure! And I really like what your grandma said “You got to risk it, if you want the biscuit”. In financial management, most people are risk-haters. However, I think the most worst case is not when you don’t want to take risks, but when there’s no risk but you are just not confident enough.
Comment on The science of making group discussions “smarter” by Laura
I wrote something similar in a journal entry for this class. This is great information! I was wondering how educators try to encourage and stimulate group discussions.

Quick Response: Because Sound system is a proper noun. Check your human privilege.
Serious Response: I don’t believe so. I think that cost will always be a factor in any production within a mortal society. As long as our time is limited and quantifiable it is a resource we will barter with.

Quick question: Why was “system” capitalized in “Sound system”?
More serious question: Is there a point at which the benefits of the technology would cease to outweigh the costs?
Comment on The Joy of Teaching by AKatz
You wrote, “Not only do I get so much out of working with students, and writing and learning myself,” which reminded me about Richard Feynman making a tangentially similar observation about how teaching helped him learn himself.
